First of all I would like to welcome you to Beaumont Photography, I hope you enjoy having a look around! The purpose of this site is to give a photo diary of my travels to various airbases and airshows around the UK and abroad.
Born in the mid-80's, I am of an age where the golden era of large air forces are long over. Many, many types of aircraft graced the skies of the UK during the Cold War but with the fall of the Iron Curtain and with the associated defence cuts and advances in techology we have seen our air forces dwindle to an ounce of their formal selves. However, there is still much more out there for the avaition enthusiast!
Aviation has been apart of my life since day one. With the majority of my family involved in the industry one way or another, it is something that has never been too far away. Early memories of great airshows at RAF Leuchars, RAF Mildenhall and other great locations are firmly etched into my mind. Photography in general has been an interest of mine too for many years but it wasn't until 1997 when I attended my first Enthusiast weekend at the RAF Leuchars air show in Fife, Scotland, that aviation photography took a firm hold. Ever since that first weekend in September 1997 my interest in aviation photography has increasingly taking over more of my life.
The first proper camera I tried was my Father's old Soviet built Zenith SLR that came with two small lenses. I attempted to use this for a couple of years before giving up and buying a more up to date Canon EOS 3000 film SLR. An entry level SLR that came with a 35-80mm lens which I bought in 2000. I used this camera for 4 years, slowly trying to understand what on earth I was supposed to do with it! However, it wasn't until 2005, when I bought my first digital SLR, Canon's EOS 350D that my photography took a momentous leap. My interest in the subject exploded and with the help of the internet and fellow like minded individuals from message boards like, SimHQ and UKAR, I have steadily tried to improve and provide a different and unique angle to the subject.
I set this website up in early 2006 as a place to share the small number of trips I made whilst still living in Scotland. I spent numerous days outside RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth when I should of been in the university library. Although I always had a deep respect for the RAF and the other armed services, it was during these days that I really started to appreciate the hard work and dedication that the men and women of our armed forces do everyday to help keep our lifes safe. With this in mind, I want to use this site and ultimately my photography to show the hard work that our armed forces do and also those involved in promoting the armed forces through numerous air events & shows around the country. My aim is to provide something unique and I hope that what can be found on this site provides that.
